About ABSL

Overview

The Australian Basketball Shooters League (ABSL) is a national shooting competition catering for boys/girls and men/women from 10yrs to Open ages. In 2026, we will run 90 one-day events around Australia, in all states, capital cities, and major regional areas. With a maximum of 240 shooters per event, the annual competition aims to reach over 21,000 participants in its first year.

Event Description

At each one-day event, individual shooters will have the opportunity to shoot two rounds of an “NBA-style” 3-point competition – ie: five racks of five balls in 70 seconds. Shooters will also shoot two lots of ten free-throws. Each shooter’s best 3-point score will be combined with their best free-throw score to achieve their final score for the day. In each age division a winner will be announced. Event winners will be invited to a National Championships event, producing an ABSL National Champion in each category.

Basketball Club Representation

The ABSL aims to work in conjunction with clubs and representative bodies, continuing to promote the development of organised basketball across Australia. Although the competition is open to anyone to participate, we will encourage participants to wear their local club/domestic/school team uniform, or representative uniforms if appropriate. Shooters can represent their team, club, school, town/city or state. We would also encourage Basketball Australia, state bodies, and local clubs to have a presence (free-of-charge) at each event, promoting local competitions and club/representative opportunities.

ABSL Vision

The ABSL will provide high quality nation-wide shooting events, promoting participation, enjoyment, competition and the development of shooting skills for Australian basketball players.

ABSL Values

  • Respect (Participate and compete with respect for everyone: other competitors, officials, and coaches.)

  • Inclusion (Regardless of skill level, gender, cultural background, there is space for everyone to participate.)

  • Diligence (Improving shooting requires dedication, focus and commitment over the long term.)
