Overall Aim

Each shooter will shoot two rounds of twenty-five 3-point shots, and two lots of ten free-throws. The shooter’s best 3-point score and best free-throw score will be combined to make their total score for the event. In each category, the shooter with the highest total score will win their event, and will be invited to the ABSL National Championships event.

3-Point Shooting Format

Shooters will have 70 seconds to shoot from five different racks placed around the 3-point line. There are 25 basketballs in total: five at each rack.

Each rack has four regular orange balls and one red/white/blue "money" ball. A regular ball is worth one point, while a money ball is worth two points.

Free-Throw Shooting Format

Shooters will shoot ten consecutive free-throws from regulation FIBA distance, and must release the shot no more than five seconds after receiving the ball from the official. Each free-throw is worth one point.

Organisation

Each competitor will be assigned a one-hour timeframe in which a group of 10 shooters will undertake their two rounds of 3-point shooting. The order of shooting is as-per the official program, with Round 2 of shooting commencing only after all shooters have completed Round 1. All shooters are required to assist with rebounding and resetting the ball racks for the entire one hour period. Arriving late or leaving early may incur disqualification. Free-throw shooting will occur on a separate court to the 3-point shooting spaces. Competitors can shoot their two rounds of free-throws at any time before or after their 3-point group allocation time.

Officials

At each 3-point shooting station, two ABSL Officials will work together to facilitate the competition. They may rotate between the roles of scoring/recording and officiating/facilitating.

At each free-throw station, one ABSL Official will manage both the competition and recording of scores.

Each event will have an Event Director who is responsible for leading and managing ABSL Officials to administer the competition in line with ABSL rules and regulations. Any decisions requiring a higher level of discretion will be referred to the Event Director at first instance. The Event Director has ultimate authority to make rulings on the day, and these must be abided by competitors, spectators and officials.

Any complaint/challenge/protest should be put in writing to the ABSL Director, at absl@absl.net.au for consideration.
